The Jeff Watson Trophy
30 March 2008
In Autumn 2007 the club lost a valued and talented member - Jeff Watson, who died after a long illness. Jeff was a wonderful photographer who particularly loved to capture images of the wild creatures that he was privileged to spend much of his life observing in his career with the RSPB and laterly SNH.
Our members decided that it would be a fitting way to remember Jeff by inaugurating a Trophy in the shape of a Golden Eagle - a species in which he was a world expert - to be awarded annually for the best wildlife entry in a special competition, which was judged on Thursday 27th March by Vanessa his wife. Vanessa gave us a fascinating and personal review of each entry before announcing that the winner was Catherine Clark for her wonderful photograph of a breaching Humpback Whale. The picture is shown below.

Thirty entries were received for the competition, and they ranged from a solo spider all the way up the Catherine's whale. We hope that the competition will have the dual effect of remembering Jeff and encouraging our members to hone their photographic skills in a very challenging subject area.
Vanessa is seen below presenting Catherine with her Trophy.
